Transgenderism is a growing issue in America’s political discourse. Transgenderism, also called gender dysphoria, is when a man or woman believes that the gender they feel they are does not match their physical anatomy. Whether these individuals choose to make a surgical transition into the opposite gender or not, it is impossible to change chromosomes. This leaves girls at a disadvantage when transgenders demand the right to play sports with the opposite sex. Protests from transgender athletes have been raised from girls’ sporting events at the college level down to middle school. Female athletes across the country are uncertain if they will still have female-only sports.
Transgender boys may feel that they are a girl, but the science is stacked against them. Differences in bone structure and larger organs give boys an advantage over girls in sports. Males have high testosterone levels, which boost sports performance. That’s why Eastern Germany secretly gave female athletes testosterone to boost Olympic performance throughout the 1980s. Although a transgender boy may take testosterone-reducing drugs, he still benefits from previous exposure to high testosterone levels. Scientific evidence and biological differences are irrefutable. The effects are just as irrefutable too. This will cause girls to lose female athlete scholarship opportunities. No matter how hard these girls may train, they will not be able to compete with these physical advantages against them.
Women are speaking out against transgenders’ demands. Organizations like Concerned Women for America and Save Women’s Sports are providing a voice for female athletes. Idaho won a victory in June when the Department of Justice determined that the Idaho Fairness in Women’s Sport Act was constitutional. This Act prohibits biological males who are transgender from competing with biological females. This battle can be won. Parents and American citizens must speak on behalf of these young female athletes. Young women train and work hard to be great athletes. Their dreams and goals should not be squashed by the political minority with a dark agenda.
