Washington, D.C.: “Just when we may have thought that public schools couldn’t shock us more, Fairfax County Public Schools are here to prove us wrong!” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Several FCPS schools have found their hands caught in the proverbial cookie jar in this new year.”
“Apparently, school officials simply didn’t notify students (many of whom are Asian American) who achieved the National Merit Scholarship ‘Commended’ status last fall,” Martin continued. “This status can act as a golden ticket of sorts, achieving major scholarships at schools across the country. It may seem like a grave mistake, but a deeper look at FCPS and complaints against them reveals something far more sinister.
“It turns out the district superintendent has recently paid nearly half a million dollars to a California company for training in ‘equity-centered strategic planning.’ What is this strategy with a left-coast ring to it? I can’t put it any better than the contractor at the center of this scandal: Mutiu Fagbayi, owner of Performance Fact, Inc.”
“The goal is equal outcomes,” Fagbayi explained in another recorded meeting with Princeton Public Schools. “To have true equity, you have to be purposefully unequal when it comes to resources. I want to say that again because most districts struggle with that. To have an equity-centered organization, we have to have the courage and the willingness to be purposefully unequal when it comes to opportunities and access.”
Martin concluded, “As the shocking pieces fall together and many stellar young men and women pick up the pieces of shattered college dreams, it’s easy to see why Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has launched a civil rights investigation into this Fairfax County controversy. The wicked and vile tentacles of ‘equity’ are rampant in our schools. Now is the time to start monitoring your school board and programs without ceasing!”
