Tomorrow marks 114 years since the founding of the Boys Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America has long been a cornerstone of American youth development, embodying the timeless values of duty, honor, and country. It provided a structured environment where young boys could cultivate leadership, resilience, and a strong moral compass—qualities essential for sustaining the greatness of our nation. We celebrate this longstanding American institution as we approach America’s 250th anniversary.
The Boy Scouts have increasingly succumbed to modern pressures that prioritize political correctness over character building. Policies promoting inclusivity and diversity have diluted the core mission of the Scouts, shifting the focus from personal responsibility and merit to identity politics. This misguided approach undermines the Scouts’ purpose. It alienates the boys who once thrived under its disciplined and values-driven framework.
Last year, the Boy Scouts changed their name to Scouting America. Leftism has spread anti-male sentiment throughout the culture. An exclusive place for boys to learn skills, grow into virtue, and turn into men runs against the progressive ideology ravaging our institutions. They started by forcing girls into the Boy Scouts. Now, they don’t even call it Boy Scouts.
To restore the Boy Scouts to its rightful place as a premier American institution, it is imperative to reject the encroachment of radical leftist values and return to the principles that made it successful. Emphasizing traditional scouting values, such as honor, integrity, and patriotism, will reinvigorate the organization to keep turning boys into men. It also needs to become a male-only organization once again.
The Boy Scouts must reclaim its legacy by prioritizing character over conformity, merit over mediocrity, and tradition over trendiness. Only then can it once again serve as the beacon of American excellence it was always meant to be?
