Washington, D.C.: “The Biden Administration has decided that if boys can’t go to the girls’ locker room, kids don’t get to eat anymore,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Basically, the Department of Agriculture is using poor kids to play politics. Withholding federal lunch money to demand compliance with radical gender ideology is a disgusting politicization of our poor communities.”
The USDA has announced that any state receiving Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) funding must now abide by the newly interpreted Title IX and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) discrimination policies on gender identity and sexual preference.
“We’re already dealing with a Title IX investigation against three Wisconsin eighth graders who supposedly ‘mispronouned’ a fellow student, and now the federal government is burdening already beleaguered schools in poor communities,” Martin concluded. “It’s time for states to put a stop to this radical federal intrusion, no matter the cost. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is threatening a lawsuit and other states must stand up, too. For too long the grasping hand of federal education has held out funding in exchange for compliance, and it’s time to start saying no! If states need to figure out another way to feed disadvantaged school kids, it’s a small price to pay to cast off federal control and this insane gender ideology.”
