My mentor, the late Phyllis Schlafly, was a key voice in nearly every area of political thought. One of her favorite topics to speak on was the indoctrination going on at universities around the nation. She witnessed the craziness firsthand by investigating campus riots in the 1960s and by speaking or debating on campuses thousands of times over the course of her seventy years of political involvement. In the early days of her activism, she was one of few voices warning that college professors were indoctrinating and radicalizing their students. So many years later, the curtain has been lifted and anyone can clearly see the leftist bias being forced on our young people today.
Arizona State University is embracing this indoctrination philosophy by offering Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in “Social Justice and Human Rights.” In case you hadn’t heard, social justice is just a leftist buzzword for the thoughtless radical ideology of young liberals. Students who want to study for these degrees will take classes like “Grassroots Social Movements,” “Abject bodies and the Politics of Trash,” and “Gender on the Borderlands.” ASU is far from being the only place to offer these kinds of ridiculous classes. This sad state of American scholarliness should bother every parent footing the bill for their son or daughter’s so-called “education.” They should demand to know what their children are learning in these social justice courses. On top of that, taxpayers should demand to know why they are backing student loans to finance these degrees.
When we send our young people to college, we are not sending them there to get indoctrinated by leftist professors clutching onto tenure as they spout off personal opinions. We send young people to college to prepare them for jobs in the workforce so they can become productive citizens. What company out there wants to hire someone with a masters in social justice? I would say the demand is pretty low. Don’t let these universities get away with indoctrinating your sons and daughters. Keep tabs on what they are learning and don’t let them go for a phony degree in social justice.
