Washington, D.C. The Democratic-controlled House will vote this morning on the so-called “Equality Act” (H.R. 5). This proposed law, which would add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes under the Civil Rights Act, would smother the First Amendment rights of All Americans.
“Not in our lifetimes have we seen a more broad, sweeping piece of legislation that would damage so much,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Congress must reject H.R. 5. It poses an incredible threat to the First Amendment. The government would become the primary enforcer of the progressive agenda.”
We were pleased to host a press conference call with members of the media and Eagle Leaders from across the country. This call featured Congressman Andy Biggs of Arizona, as well as John Schlafly. The call was valuable information for press and our leaders. We are grateful to Congressman Biggs and John for answering questions. Listen to the audio here.
