America Needs Government To Fight For Checks and Balances
Washington, D.C.: “House Oversight Chairman James Comer is hot on the heels of the corrupt FBI and their Director Christopher Wray,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles Chairman Ed Martin. “This battle over the FBI’s contempt of Congress certainly appears to be the right move, but I hope it is only the beginning of a new era of checks and balances.”
“Our Founders knew the dangers of men with power,” Martin continued,”and they gave us a great gift in the constitutional structure of our federal power. Just as the Supreme Court has delivered some strict and correct blows to its fellow branches in the recent past, so now it’s time for the Congress to fully realize its role in checking the out-of-control bureaucracy of our executive.
“The FBI’s activities and budget appropriations are to be reviewed both by the judicial system and by our legislative powers. It’s time for not just Chairman Comer, but the entire federal legislative body to flex their Article I muscles. Congress holds the power of the purse, something far underused against these agencies run amok.”
“The ‘People’s House’ swings a big stick when they want to, and this week they ought to start! We need more than hearings, and more than just information. It’s time for Congress to put the squeeze on the FBI and other power hungry agencies. I hope Chairman Comer inspires other House and Senate leaders to do the same.”
