Sound Courts Should Squash Political Witch Hunts on the Eve of Elections
Washington, D.C.: “Justice Clarence Thomas issued a welcome decision from the Supreme Court today, blocking enforcement of a political subpoena against Sen. Lindsey Graham in the final days of midterm campaigning,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia, decided that after two years of silence and refusal of transparency on electoral issues, it was finally time to make some headlines. The problem is that their headlines haven’t pursued any one of the number of problems that Fulton County experienced in 2020, instead choosing to target conservatives and make several nasty headlines right before a major U.S. midterm election.”
Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund along with the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons argued this very point in an amicus brief to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in September. Read the full brief here.
“Fulton County prosecutors have seemingly made it their mission to run press interference for the national Democrat Party,” Martin concluded. “The political nature of some of their antics is downright laughable. Good for Justice Thomas! He is spot-on in halting this abuse of prosecutorial authority. The left is pulling out all the stops to quash Free Speech itself, and we need judges of backbone who will stand up against it.”
