Great work from Senate Majority Leader McConnell on fulfilling their role to confirm great constitutional judges.
Washington, D.C.: This afternoon in the Senate, GOP leadership invoked the “nuclear option” by a vote of 51-48. This move will give the GOP majority the ability to bypass destructive Democratic obstructionism. John and Andy Schlafly addressed this in their weekly column yesterday and called for Senate Leadership to trigger such a vote.
“This is a wonderful move by Majority Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Democrats have obstructed and filibustered the confirmation of great, qualified nominees to federal judgeships simply to thwart the President they still refuse to admit beat them in 2016.
“Chief among President Trump’s promises from the campaign was to deliver solid, constitutional federal judges who would interpret and not legislate from the bench. He has delivered excellent nominations and the Senate has delivered his Supreme Court and Appellate Court choices. It’s time to end the backlog of lower federal court seats that remain vacant.”
One hundred thirty-three nominees await confirmation, and most of those have not even had a hearing due to the Democrat-caused backlog. Read more about this issue in John and Andy Schlafly’s column here.
