Congress Following in NARA’s Misguided Footsteps and Political Theater
Washinton, D.C.: “Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee plans to follow the ill-fated footsteps of many on the left in ramming through ratification of the expired Equal Rights Amendment,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Feminists and Democrats have attempted this folly for decades via one strategy or another. Each time they’re smacked down by law, precedent, or the Constitution. Instead of admitting failure and starting over, like everyone from Gloria Steinem to Ruth Bader Ginsburg has advised, radical libs are hell bent on forcing the 1970s ERA through.
“It’s almost comical: members of Congress demand a new bill is needed because the words of their old bill don’t really count anymore. The whole premise of the arguments this time are nearly as foolish as the U.S. Archivist’s actions in 2020 when he tangled with (and lost to) our watchful Eagles and the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel.
“No matter how many angry, copy-and-paste Tweets the left can muster, the legal facts of the matter don’t change: the Equal Rights Amendment is expired. The very late ‘ratifications’ of three more states are still irrelevant. This new ERA push will fail as its unconstitutional predecessors have. The Senate should give up on this fool’s errand and respect the rule of law.”
