ACB is a great victory for a restrained judiciary.
Washington, D.C.: A short time ago, the Senate voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett as the newest Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court. The vote came on the heels of 30 hours of debate on the Senate floor.
“This confirmation is a great victory for the American judiciary,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Amy Barrett is a jurist of the highest integrity. I have no doubt that her future on our nation’s highest court will be a story of reverence for the Constitution and judicial restraint. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham acted quickly in moving this fantastic nomination through the process. They should be recognized for great work.
“What is less deserving of praise, however, is the absolutely vile way in which Democrat senators handled this process. Their despicable attacks on Judge Barrett and our republic itself are hard to list completely. Since before her Senate confirmation even began, they questioned her religious values. They ignored her words in favor of a carefully crafted false narrative, deciding for her how she would rule on many potential future cases. Americans weren’t fooled by irrelevant issues and false narratives manufactured to scare them into voting a certain way. The Democrats behaved despicably, but Judge Barrett and our constitutional process persevered nonetheless.”
Also revealing were the speeches of Democrats during the final hours of debate. Senate leftists put on a circus act with impressive mental acrobatics. They hoped the American public wouldn’t see through their charade: inflating numbers of Obamacare beneficiaries, assigning false motives to Judge Barrett, pretending legalized abortion is safer and rarer than the alternative, and worst of all creating their own definition of “court packing” before promising to legitimately pack the court themselves. They aren’t fooling anyone.
Judge Barrett will be sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas at the White House later this evening.
