Washington, D.C.: The U.S. State Department issued a report late yesterday with an update on the expansions to the "Mexico City Policy" re-authorized by President Trump on his third day in office. This policy was first signed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, and later again by President Bush in 2001. It curtails the use of foreign aid dollars going to non-governmental organizations that "perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning." The Trump Administration not only reinstated the Bush 2001 version of this policy, but has expanded it, renaming the initiative "Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance."
"Reinstating this policy just days into office solidified support for the president from many pro-life people across the country," said Ed Martin, President of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. "We are encouraged to see not only continued implementation of it but an expansion into more departments and more foreign aid. These types of executive policies have well-earned the reputation that Donald Trump is one of the most pro-life Presidents we have experienced.”
