Respected Attorneys William J. Olson and Herb Titus Chime In On the Con of “Con Con”
Washington, D.C.: “Groups that seek to force an Article V Constitutional Convention are on the move again,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “They are marching through state legislatures (so far without much success thanks to the work of activists like Andy Schlafly) trying to convince lawmakers of the hair-brained logic that in order to protect the Constitution we must change it!
“Phyllis Schlafly knew better, and many other stalwart conservatives do as well. Phyllis understood that the prospect of a new convention not only had radical leftists salivating but would ultimately serve to destroy the precious document we have! The real problem to be changed isn’t the Constitution itself, but those agents of government who don’t obey it.”
Martin continued, “I am pleased to see two respected names in constitutional litigation renewing their fight against an Article V Convention! Attorneys William J. Olson and Herb Titus, prolific authors of amicus curiae briefs, are warning again how dangerous it is for states to apply for a new Constitutional Convention. They, like Phyllis, understand that the problem isn’t the text of the Constitution, and that text shouldn’t be opened to drastic change by whoever brings the most bodies to a political convention.
“Every state legislator ought to take a close look at their paper called ‘The Con-Con Con.’ It’s rich in detail and makes very plain, from a constitutional and legal viewpoint, the false premises and false assurances of the pro-convention crowd. A new convention would spell doom for the Constitution and our republic.”
