Washington, D.C.: President Donald Trump nominated Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett moments ago for the United States Supreme Court.
“The addition of Judge Barrett to the High Court will be a great victory for our Constitution, the American judiciary, and We the People,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Long has our nation faced a struggle between two judicial philosophies — a restrained, textualist interpretation of our Constitution and a progressive push to rewrite the laws and morality of our nation outside of an elected legislature. Judge Barrett has displayed a philosophy of constructionism and judicial restraint throughout her career. Despite this, she has been attacked already by out-of-line politicians questioning her religious convictions. It’s despicable. I shudder to think what disgusting chicanery awaits Judge Barrett in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s politicized hearing.
