Biden, Nadler Repeat False Narratives About 1994 ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban
Washington, D.C.: “House Democrats have passed a new ‘assault weapons’ ban, H.R. 1808, out of the judiciary committee, but there’s nothing new about tired and disproven arguments,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles President Ed Martin. “From the White House to the halls of Congress, the same outright lies are being peddled to the American public about the contents of this bill and the abject failure of its historical predecessor. That’s likely why it’s being reported Democrats may not even have a margin of victory in the House, which they control.”
H.R. 1808 mirrors similar language from the failed 10-year ban on so-called ‘assault weapons.’ The list of banned weapons focuses almost exclusively on features and not function. It’s a laundry list of things that don’t affect a weapon’s lethality or concealability whatsoever.
Martin continued, “We must understand one very clear fact: the 1994 ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban that banned millions of firearms based on an arbitrary set of features did not reduce crimes committed with firearms, or criminal activity overall, in any way, shape, or form. Multiple studies have proved this, despite even some author’s best attempts to hide it, and we shouldn’t be fooled now by bald-faced lies from Jerry Nadler and Joe Biden. There is no data to support a ban on so-called ‘assault weapons.’ There is no data to support a reduction in crime when lawful gun ownership is restricted (in fact, quite the opposite).
“Most importantly, there are no moral or logical justifications for the disarming of American citizens; quite the opposite, in fact! We must remember that this push for banning is a primary goal of the Marxist left. Why, you ask? Because they believe government is the supreme power and ought to have a monopoly on violence. This is a patently un-American view of personal responsibility and safety, and it goes against the very underpinnings of our nation’s inception. We the People are the sovereign of this nation, from whom the government derives their power.”
“The goal of the Marxist left,” Martin concluded, “isn’t to ban scary guns that hurt people, it’s to ban lawfully armed citizens that can hold them at bay. This ham-fisted attempt to reinstate the failed and useless ‘assault weapons’ ban must fall on the ash heap of history, as did its predecessor. May we never forget the sage warning of Thomas Jefferson that ‘When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.’”
