Texas Attorney General is Absolutely Right to Challenge Twitter Monopoly
Washington, D.C.: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking Big Tech monopolies to task, starting with Twitter.
“General Paxton has Twitter running scared and filing desperate lawsuits to protect its powerful monopoly,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “It’s truly despicable that Twitter and other Big Tech giants try to hide behind the very right to Free Speech that they are determined to prevent their political opponents from exercising. Big Tech elites must learn they can’t have it both ways, and Ken Paxton is teaching them a lesson.
“Twitter’s retaliatory suits against the Texas Attorney General should fall flat in any decent courtroom. It’s clear to everyone the only ones abusing power here are the elites who want speech for them but not for you. Paxton’s argument clearly holds water: public utilities do not get the ability to censor speech they don’t like, and major social media networks have clearly positioned themselves as public utilities. They will scream and demand otherwise, but Americans see through their double standard.
“We’re glad for Paxton’s good work and wish him all speed and support in his fight against those who want the First Amendment to apply to only the ideas they agree with.”
