The Democrats often speak about the January 6 protests at the Capitol building. They also still talk about Charlottesville. Both of these events, in their mind, point to the fact that the right is a violent force of destruction that must be stopped at all costs.
Few on the left or right these days say anything about the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots that occurred across the United States in response to the death of George Floyd. The riots, which occurred between May 26 and June 8 of 2020, caused an estimated $2 billion in damages.
Axios states: “The protests that took place in 140 U.S. cities this spring were mostly peaceful, but the arson, vandalism and looting that did occur will result in at least $1 billion to $2 billion of paid insurance claims — eclipsing the record set in Los Angeles in 1992 after the acquittal of the police officers who brutalized Rodney King.”
The perfect form of peaceful protests, perhaps picketing outside a school board or abortion clinic, usually costs $0 in insurance claims. The Black Lives Matter rioters were not peaceful. They were extremely destructive to the property of private business owners. Axios, in their supposedly unbiased and fact-based reporting, point out that the cost is small when compared to insurance costs resulting from natural disasters. The difference is that human beings destroyed property during the 2020 riots. Unlike a hurricane, people can be prosecuted and sued to pay back what they’ve taken.
The left’s alarmist coverage of Charlottesville, which happened in 2017, should be disregarded. They lie by omission when they fail to compare it to the far more destructive actions of BLM, done with the support of the narrative machine.
