Washington, D.C.: “The First Amendment permits the free expression of religion, even if religious expression goes against the social norms of the day,” said Ed Martin, president of the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “As woke leftism changes our social norms, it’s so important that Christians fight for our First Amendment protections.”
This week a Federal appeals court ruled that the Catholic Roncalli High School in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis was within their First Amendment rights when they terminated Lynn Starkey, an employee who entered into a same-sex union. This violated not only Roncalli High School’s Christian teaching but their employment contract as well.
“It’s encouraging to see stories like this,” Martin continued. “The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals made the right and constitutional move here. Leftism has not totally dominated our judicial bench. There are still victories to be had for conservatives and Christians! It’s an important reminder that we shouldn’t stop fighting for what we believe in. There are many small fights to be fought, and many small victories make a big impact.”
