So we got a couple of great interviews coming up today. Like I said, Ed was actually able to get a couple of those done and I’m looking forward to hearing those with you. But before we get to those, let me spend just a few moments on the WYNK. What you need to know. This first thing up front here, we always do it first. In the program. And it’s actually we’ve got a little bit of a balance balancing act, a seesaw back and forth from yesterday to today.
Yesterday, Ed did a little bit of railing on the Republicans at that point yesterday. Tom Emmer, A congressman, was looking to be potentially the next speaker of the House. I think he spent actually a hot minute as the GOP nominee from the conference to be the Speaker and Tom Emmer is definitely not not, shall we say, the most conservative man. And this this is who we’re putting up. If, you know, we went through this whole fight, this whole process to Get rid of Kevin McCarthy then why in the world Would we put this guy forward, it was it was a pretty daunting, daunting day it looked. Not so great. And then at the 11th hour late last night. Representative Mike Johnson emerged as the next designee. Tom Emmer withdrew. Mike Johnson stepped forward and today he was voted through the full house as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
So Speaker Mike Johnson took the gavel today, but I think This is a good move, so that’s what you need to know today. Speaker Mike Johnson is here, and I tell you what, that’s that’s what we take from this.
What you need to know is the fight in government is worth it. The fight in our legislative branch, the weeks and days that it takes to work these things out, this is good. I I really Think that as as much as yesterday, what you need to know is the Republican Party was inept. I’ll tell you today. Even if Matt Gaetz didn’t have a plan, even if this was not ultimately all packed into a neat little idea of exactly how we would get from his motion to vacate the chair to remove Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker of the House to this moment, even if it wasn’t all planned out the fight was worth it. That’s what we need. That’s what we need to know. That’s what we need to take away from this. I know a lot of people have been disparaging on. Ohh. This has been awful and there’s been a display of how disunified the party is and it makes us look bad. And they haven’t governed and gotten anything done. And this and that. And the other.
You know what? Good. I say good.
I think that this has been a valid and worthwhile argument to have inside of our own caucus, because if we’re given mandates from voters, if we are given the majority to respond to the awful leftist policies coming forth from Democrats in Congress from a Run amok presidential administration. Then it is time to seize that moment and make some serious change.
Have some actual checks on the size and scope of government, have some serious spending cuts, have some real hard looks at our foreign aid packages and foreign policies. And yet. Some of those basic things that Kevin McCarthy promised to do, he didn’t do.
This was the OR Else that Matt Gaetz and the conservative bloc, the freedom 20, I heard a lot of different names, because we did this, you know, we just did this back in January, you’ll recall, except it was 20 conservative members of the House holding out until they got the concessions and agreements to certain things from House leadership from the more establishment wing of the party. Sure enough, that didn’t happen, and they had a or else, a single vote to a single vote or a single member could make a motion to vacate the chair, meaning one person could call for a vote to remove the speaker of the House, which, when four or five of your Republicans is all it takes to go along with every Democrat in the Chamber. That’s a pretty big or else.
Well, Kevin McCarthy gave it to him in the rules, and sure enough, Matt Gaetz used it, and I think that it was worth the fight because we have gotten to what I believe is a very exciting and hopeful position. Mike Johnson, I believe, is going to make a great speaker. I think that he has a real chance and a good track record of moving things forward of being For transparency of being for oversight and accountability, of being for the limiting of government. Is he perfect? no. In fact, I I can’t almost think of any of them there that actually vote 100% of the time the way that I would, or I would ask them to if they said what I what should I do and. I think that you could, you could probably say the same thing.
But if we look at the whole package and the whole picture, I I believe that Mike Johnson has a great record and I’m very excited. I am very hopeful that this will be a very interesting and very unique opportunity. He will take hold of some of these moments that we are in right now. Obviously it’s it’s still a long road because we only have one house or I should say. One chamber. Of Congress, we only have the House, not the Senate. But that Senate Majority is so slim.
There are some real opportunities to get some things through here, and the House ought to take even more that which, to his credit, Kevin McCarthy did let many of the committees really start to swing the big sticks that they have, Oversight. Ways and Means. The House has the power of the purse and I think that there’s even more that can be done. I think that there is more that can be put through and I think that Mike Johnson is going To see to those things, to let them happen, or spearhead them himself.
I am very hopeful. So I think that’s that’s what we need to know today. This fight in Congress, this speaker fight was well worth it.
I would say don’t ever let anyone convince you That the Gears of Government grinding to a halt is a bad thing. Inherently, that is in fact how the Founders set up our system to be slow, to have checks and balances so that the quick accumulation of power and the wielding of that power would not just be inherently possible. So. I think this is good and I think that that’s how we should view it. And I think that this has been worthwhile. I think these last three weeks are not wasted. I believe that it got us to a better place to move forward and I think that it proves that just as much as we complain that a vocal minority has driven the left wild and we wish that there was a more steadfast. Maybe you know, bloc of conservatives to move the Republican Party in a certain direction. I I think this is the proof in the pudding that’s there. There are a group. There is a group of people there and they are ready to take leadership to put themselves on the line to argue for things that matter and to argue against people that aren’t going to go and get them done and they’re going to be taking a hold of these issues, grabbing them by the horns and getting it done.
I think that this fight has been well worth it to identify who in Congress. Is willing to fight for we the people and who in Congress is willing to fight only for we the powerful.
And this, I believe is a key moment where all of us looking around before election year can start to figure a few things out, which of course I’m not making, make no mistake, not using this radio show to endorse anyone in specific. But the primaries have not happened yet. So take note, conservatives, fellow conservatives, this is our time to Notice not just who ultimately ended up voting for Mike Johnson, but during this process, who said what, Who voted for whom, who said what They would never do, or this or that, or the other. Look at it all and consider is there pruning? Is there some serious work to be done in our Republican Party primaries? I would argue that there is. And I would argue that the last three weeks have been abundantly helpful. And I in identifying What some of that work is. So That is what you need to know today. The Republican Party the last three weeks may have been a roller coaster of ineptitude, but this is a good thing. We are getting there, I think to a good place in the House, and it has been well worth it. This fight in the House has been well worth it. That’s what you need to know today.
