Washington, D.C.: The Democratic-controlled House will vote as early as this week on the so-called “Equality Act” (H.R. 5). We have established that this new privileged status for sexual orientation and gender identity under the Civil Rights Act would dangerously affect women’s rights, free speech, freedom of conscience, and religious liberty. A lesser-known but equally significant impact would occur in the public school system.
“If the Equality Act becomes law, public schools could easily force gender identity and orientation into elementary school curriculum,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “This leftist social engineering is already required by law in many liberal states. However, many others have passed legislation specifically limiting such curriculum. The Equality Act would nullify those great state education laws.
“This is very revealing of the radical leftist agenda: to transform K-12 education in America. The Equality Act would give leftists the tools they need to indoctrinate children with their own ideology. All U.S. Representatives should oppose H.R. 5 when it comes to a floor vote.”
