Sen. Hawley Puts NATO Expansion Vote In Perspective
Washington, D.C.: “The internet and establishment political world is aflame with mockery and disdain of Missouri Senator Josh Hawley this week for having the guts to stand alone on his ‘No’ vote to expanding the antiquated North Atlantic Treaty Organization,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Not only does Josh Hawley talk the talk on putting America first — he’s willing to walk the walk alone if need be.”
“America must prioritize the facing of our true enemy instead of funneling money and foreign control of our military to the hands of globalist elites,” Martin continued. “Good for Senator Hawley for sticking to his principles and being willing to stand alone in the senate 95 to 1. May he continue to stand up for America and for liberty, and may conservatives send him reinforcements this fall!”
Senator Hawley’s own words and reasoning speaks best for his vote:
“I’m not arguing for retreat and I’m not arguing for isolation. What I am arguing for is an end to the globalist policy that has lead our nation from one disaster to another for decades now. What I am arguing for is the return to a classic nationalist approach to American foreign policy, the one that made this country great. A foreign policy that is grounded in our nation’s interests and in the reality of the world as it is, not as we wish it was or not as what we once hoped it would be.
“In years past, NATO was a bulwark against an imperial Soviet Union. Today, the world’s greatest imperial threat is in Asia, and the hour to address that threat is growing very late.”
