Career IRS Executive Tapped to Lead New Centralized Office Has Distasteful Ties
Washington, D.C.: “As if 87,000 new IRS agents to terrorize the working class of America wasn’t bad enough, the long-time bureaucrat tapped to oversee these new agents comes with major baggage,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles President Ed Martin. “Upon passage of the Democrats’ massive IRS expansion bill, IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig announced a new Inflation Reduction Act 2022 Transformation and Implementation Office, headed by none other than deputy commissioner Nikole Flax.
“Flax’s name may not be familiar, but her former boss’s name will likely ring a bell. During the Obama Administration, Flax worked for Lois Lerner, who was famously swept up in scandal for delaying the tax-exempt status of certain conservative groups. Despite former AG Eric Holder’s refusal to charge Lerner, her name has lived in infamy as someone who used federal power to punish political opponents.
“I’m sure I speak for nearly all advocates of limited government in saying that the rancid icing on the spoiled cake of this IRS expansion is its oversight by a protégé of the infamous Lois Lerner, who resigned in scandal. This news story may have gone unnoticed by many, but it’s a headline that voters must understand. Those who wield government power for blatant political purposes must be denied the opportunity and power to persecute We the People.”
