Washington, D.C.: The House Rules Committee is expected to vote through H.R. 4 tomorrow, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019. It is then likely to receive a full House floor vote Thursday or Friday. This dangerous federal bill would require certain jurisdictions and states to get pre-approval from the Department of Justice before amending any voting laws.
“This is a direct federal attack on states who have passed Voter ID laws,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “This attack is a violation of the Constitution. As Democrats have sought to permanently change American voter rolls through illegal and mass legal immigration, they manufactured a crisis of ‘voter suppression.’ No such crisis exists. Their true goal, and the purpose of H.R. 4, is to strip American citizens of their electoral power and states of their power to protect that process.”
The Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019 (H.R. 4) should be swiftly and resoundingly rejected by both the Rules Committee tomorrow and the full House later this week. It is an affront to all American citizens and the Constitution that protects them.
