The transition of power from Democrats to Republicans in the House may be good news for the life-affirming movement, but don’t be fooled into thinking that we are no longer at a disadvantage on the federal level. Regardless of who controls the Speaker’s gavel, tremendous power to push the pro-abortion agenda still resides in the White House. The State Department and the Department of Justice provide two grisly examples of this power in motion. But don’t lose hope, because Congress may have options yet.
Elyssa Koren, International director of legal communications for Alliance Defending Freedom, called the United States “the greatest international exporter of the abortion agenda.” She continued, “In 2022, the Biden administration increased its annual budget for international ‘sexual and reproductive health and rights’ services (code for abortion) by 9 percent, totaling $597 million in program allocations around the world.” This funding represents a huge move by the Executive branch to circumvent oversight by a pro-life Congress.
Meanwhile, the DOJ finally released surveillance footage of the bombing at a pro-life pregnancy center in Buffalo, New York. They even offered a $25,000 cash reward for information leading to the apprehension of the culprits. The only problem is that this move comes a full five months after the incident took place. What exactly took the FBI so long to care about these violent hate crimes? I thought 911 response times in Chicago were bad, but this is ridiculous! The answer to this question of timing might make a little bit more sense when put in context. The FBI released this footage and reward offer mere days after Republicans took control of the House of Representatives. From an outsider’s perspective, it looks a lot like the FBI suddenly got very worried about losing funding from a pro-life Congress.
Therein lies the answer to this abuse of federal power. Whether at the State Department or the Department of Justice, every inch of American bureaucracy can only thrive when given a regular infusion of your tax dollars. To prevent the persecution of pro-life values at home and abroad, our Republican Congress must defund any use of taxpayer dollars to advance a pro-abortion agenda.
