Washington, D.C.: “A California judge has ruled in favor of yet another Christian bakery owner’s right to free speech and religious liberty not to make a cake for something that violates her religious beliefs,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “At this point it almost seems cliché to discuss about Christian bakeries versus homosexual couples, but the fight for religious liberty hasn’t risen yet to a climax in our nation.
“Tastries Bakery owner Cathy Miller in Bakersfield, CA, was brought to court by the Department of Fair Housing and Employment. Yet again, the complaint was that she’d refused to serve and had discriminated against a lesbian couple, obviously (they argued) a violation of California’s Civil Rights Act. The court, however, has sided with Miller, ruling that her refusal of service did not constitute discrimination under the law. Rest assured, the plaintiff will certainly appeal this decision and they won’t rest until they find a ruling they like — likely with the 9th “Circus” Court of Appeals.
“If this sounds familiar, you’re not crazy! Yes, the case seems quite a lot like the nearly 10-year legal battle of Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cake Shop in Colorado. Jack had to go all the way to the Supreme Court to finally get protections of religious liberty, but it came in the wake of a devastating 10 years of fighting in court. You may even be surprised to learn Jack Phillips is still in the crosshairs much like this California baker. A so-called transgender individual is suing Phillips yet again for refusing to bake a cake celebrating her ‘transition.’
“You may be asking, why does the left hate bakers so much? The unfortunate news I must deliver is that this is only the testing grounds for attacks on any business, business owner, or even individual who holds religious views contrary to the religion of the woke, secularist left. When the bakers and chefs and small business owners have all been subjugated by legal means, the radical sex and gender ideologues are coming for you and me. We all must stand with Cathy Miller and make sure that this insanity goes no further. Our courts must protect freedom of conscience as the core American principle it is.”
