Many American families hold the beautiful Thanksgiving tradition of going around the table and giving everyone in attendance at the feast the opportunity to list things they are thankful for. Many are quick to mention friends, family, and food to eat. While these are all great blessings from God that we should not take for granted, here are a few more things that we at Phyllis Schlafly Eagles are thankful for that you might bring to your Thanksgiving table this year.
We are thankful for the religious roots of America’s founding, which point to the Creator from whom our rights are granted. One cannot reasonably doubt the religious motivations of our Founding Fathers when we read that famous line from the Declaration of Independence that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
We are thankful for our U.S. Constitution, which creates the framework by which our rights are secured and our voices can be heard. Let us never forget that our Constitution was established to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” as the preamble to that document so eloquently states.
We are thankful for the free enterprise system which has caused our economy to thrive and grow. The American dream is built on the idea that anyone can succeed if they are willing to work hard and innovate. So many others who suffer under the hand of economic tyranny do not have this hope that we enjoy.
We are thankful for our U.S. Armed Forces. Because of our nation’s tremendous military superiority, and the selfless sacrifice of so many brave men and women, our freedom has been passed down from generation to generation.
Last but not least, we are thankful for the grassroots workers like you who pray, vote, and educate others on the importance of being engaged in the political process. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. May we never forget the many blessings afforded to us as Americans.
