The Constitution Won’t Stop Their Crusade
Washington, D.C.: The radical left has long tried to revive one of their most sacred cows, the Equal Rights Amendment. Despite devastating Constitutional defeats in 1979, 1983, 2020, and many points in between, the left has refused to let the ERA die. The most recent attempt to revive it comes from a new and disturbing angle, straight from the pit of the pro-abortion movement in America.
“In the 1970s, feminists swore up and down to Phyllis Schlafly and the outraged American public that the Equal Rights Amendment had nothing to do with abortion,” said Phyllis Schlafly Eagles president Ed Martin. “But guess what? They lied. Phyllis Schlafly knew they were lying. State legislators knew they were lying. The American public knew they were lying. Now in 2024, they aren’t bothering to lie anymore.
“Radical pro-abortion groups have taken on a new legal effort in the midst of their ramped up telemedicine and mail-order abortion campaigns. Their political and legal lackeys have been on the hunt for new ways to seduce women and kill babies since the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in the spring of 2022.”
Martin continued, “We’ve come a long way from the roots of the pro-abortion push in America and the campaign for the Equal Rights Amendment. Gone is ‘safe, legal, and rare’ and come is the ‘celebrate your abortion’ movement. Thrown out also are the thinly veiled lies about ERA’s connection to abortion as the radical left in Congress is now openly pushing for the Equal Rights Amendment to be unconstitutionally certified as a way to secure ‘abortion rights’ at the federal level.”
“Try as they might,” Martin concluded, “Democrats haven’t been able to pry up the final nails in ERA’s coffin. The Office of Legal Counsel in the DOJ shut the lid hard in 2020 and it’s been reinforced in court time and again. The NRLC has put together a wonderful new report detailing the history of this ‘ERA revivalist’ effort and why the 2020 OLC opinion is standing strong.
“But conservatives and pro-family grassroots activists shouldn’t rest easy! We must put all of our energy into defeating the push from the Biden Administration and leftists in Congress. Just like we fought for the 2020 OLC opinion, we must fight to maintain it and see ERA left dead in the streets, far away from the doors of the National Archives.”
