Washington D.C.: “A group of 10 Republican and 10 Democrat Senators has reached some kind of deal to push more gun control and big government onto law-abiding citizens,” said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. “Republicans, especially, should understand by now that restricting law-abiding gun owners and throwing taxpayer dollars after new government programs won’t prevent crime, and it certainly won’t satiate the left’s rabid desire to disarm Americans.
The suggested framework, which is still being crafted into legislative text for a bill, would provide grants for states to develop their own red flag laws and would expand stripping men of their rights over unproven accusations.
“Even though this framework hasn’t been written into legislation yet, it’s ripe with opportunities for authorities to violate our Constitutional rights and throw due process in the waste bin,” Martin continued. “Red flag laws are bad news, always. So, too, are moves against the feminist-fabricated ‘boyfriend loophole.’ Even if these measures are crafted with the intent to rely on a judge’s orders or a warrant, it’s a huge step toward the crushing of due process.
“Senators Cornyn, Tillis, Collins, Graham, Cassidy, Toomey, Blunt, Burr, Portman, and Romney have really shaken a hornet’s nest. Conservatives want their elected office holders to protect their rights, not capitulate to Democrat fear-mongering. It’s a sad day when so many in our party have abandoned limited government and our pro-liberty principles to score cheap political points.”
