NY Attorney General Whistleblower Was Ordered to “Get Trump”

New York Attorney General Letitia James campaigned for her office in 2018 on a platform of going after Donald Trump. Since then, she pursued a civil fraud case against him that resulted in a $354 million judgment, she tried to seize his assets, and last year she was indicted by a federal grand jury in Virginia on mortgage fraud charges of her own.

Now a whistleblower from inside her office is confirming what many suspected all along — that the targeting of Trump was the goal, not simply the result of evidence.

Daniel Wiesenfeld, a veteran prosecutor working in James' Investor Protection Bureau, sent an email to his two thousand colleagues on a Friday morning last month with a bombshell disclosure. He alleges that his bureau chief had directed staff to find and pursue crimes committed by individuals and organizations affiliated with Donald Trump — including Trump himself, Truth Social, and Hewlett Packard — all without any credible reason for targeting those individuals or organizations. Wiesenfeld wrote that his office was wasting significant public taxpayer dollars to target convenient public enemies.

His email was deleted from office servers almost immediately, a follow-up email from the New York AG’s general counsel informed employees it was an internal personnel matter and that no one was in danger, and Wiesenfeld was placed on paid administrative leave.

Federal investigators — from both the FBI and the Department of Justice — sat down with Wiesenfeld for several hours, though the extent of their interest in the case has not been disclosed. But the involvement of both criminal and civil attorneys from the Justice Department signals this is being taken seriously.

Letitia James’s office can call it a “personnel issue” and deny targeting political opponents, but that response is precisely what you would expect from an office covering its tracks. This is the textbook definition of weaponizing the law, and it’s exactly what Tish James campaigned on! Find the man, then find the crime. It also exactly what conservatives warned was happening when Jack Smith was appointed, when Alvin Bragg brought his Manhattan case, and when James launched her civil fraud investigation. This whistleblower is now confirming it all from the inside.

Putting it mildly, New Yorkers should be disappointed in their top law enforcement officer and disgusted by these tactics. Lawfare is real, and it continues.
