Conservatives for Property Rights

Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund joins other organizations in new coalition initiative.

Washington, D.C.:  The Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund is proud to announce that we have come together with a cross-section of conservative and libertarian organizations in a new coalition announced last week that will focus on private property rights.

These groups have united under the name Conservatives for Property Rights. This coalition is a unified voice of movement conservatives to emphasize private property in all its forms. James Edwards, a strategist and independent consultant, is the coalition’s founder and executive director.

“Property rights are one of the cornerstones not only of modern conservatism but of the American founding, Western civilization, and the inalienable rights of all men and women at all times,” Edwards said. “We face a tremendous opportunity to reemphasize this cornerstone principle, with Republicans in the White House and controlling both houses of Congress. We’re striking while the iron is hot.”

Member organizations of Conservatives for Property Rights include the American Business Defense Council; American Conservative Union; Campaign for Liberty; Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund; Family PAC Federal; Less Government; Let Freedom Ring; American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property; and U.S. Business & Industry Council.  Together these groups represent tens of thousands of Americans and small businesses across the nation.

"Phyllis Schlafly was a leading voice in defense of patents and intellectual property," said Rebekah Gantner, Executive Director of the Eagle Forum Education Fund. "She recognized an issue that many conservatives often overlook: that property rights - intellectual and otherwise - are a fundamental tenet of the U.S. Constitution. We are thrilled to join this broad spectrum of groups, and continue Phyllis Schlafly's work in defending our fundamental right of private property."

The coalition will engage in education and advocacy with the public, Congress, and the administration.  Further, the coalition will take on research, analysis, policy development, and educational and communications activities. Initially, the new coalition will focus its attention on death tax repeal, federal land holdings and use, copyright policy, and patents as private property.
